Locating Phonebook
To search for a local business, phonebook.com.au is your priority online destination.

The Phonebook feature can also be accessed from the Ansearch site (www.ansearch.com.au), Australia’s popularity-based search engine.

Don’t forget to add Phonebook to your ‘Favourites’ folder or download the Ansearch toolbar (add link) which contains a link to the Phonebook feature. This will allow you to search for sites or contact details irrespective of which site you are viewing within the browser.

Getting Started
Conducting a local search on Phonebook is basic. Simply follow the 3-step process:

  1. Enter your search term: This relates to a word(s) describing the business, product or service you are seeking. Keywords can include names, products, attributes or brands that can help in pinpointing the business you require.
  2. Enter a location: Select a suburb, postcode or state within Australia.
  3. Press the ‘Search’ button: You will then be presented with results that closely match your keywords selected.

Search Options

Basic
Searches can be conducted based on keywords or business names.

To search by Keyword, simply select the ‘Keyword’ button below the search field.
To search by Business name, simply select the ‘Business name’ button below the search field.

To expand your geographical search beyond the location you outlined, select the ‘Include Surrounding Suburbs’ button and view results that both apply and directly surround your desired location.

top

Results
After having submitted a search term(s), a results page will be retrieved. This page provides up to 20 listings that most closely resemble your search query.

If no corresponding results are available, Phonebook will attempt to expand its geographical search in an attempt to locate other nearby alternatives.

Individual Listings Explained
Within the results page, you should be able to locate the business that most closely matches your needs.

Simply click on the underlined business name to review all details associated with that listing where available; address, phone and fax numbers, email address, website, map outlining the business location, opening hours, brands, products and services.

By clicking on the underlined links, you can effortlessly direct an email to the business of interest, access the website as well as having the ability to zoom in and out of a map guiding you to your business location.

SEARCH TIPS

Not finding your desired business?
If results do not produce your desired business, try changing your search term(s) or location and attempt your search again.

When a similar location may be found within other Australian states (eg. Armadale, VIC, Armadale, WA), Phonebook will offer alternative locations next to the search results.

By selecting the options on the left hand area of the site, results may be re-sorted by ‘Location’ or by ‘Alphabet’. The ‘Location’ option, however, will give you the most appropriate results within your requested location.

You can also elect to ‘Narrow your Search’ by category eg. ‘Teacher’ within ‘Art Schools’, ‘Computer Training’ or ‘Music Institution’ rather than just a general ‘Teacher’ category.

Searching in a specific location?

top

Know the street location of the business?
Simply add the business name or keyword you would like to conduct a search on accompanied by its street name or type and press the ‘Search’ button. This is referred to as ‘Street Search’.

TROUBLESHOOTING

No results listed after conducting a search:

This may be due to a few factors:

  • No business associated with that keyword
If your keyword or business name is uncommon, you may not find an associated business listing. In this case, try checking the spelling or entering other related words.

  • Cannot recognise the location
If the location is not recognised, try confirming the spelling or using a postcode as an alternative (or vice versa). Alternatively, try expanding your search area by submitting the state instead.
